If white reflects heat and black absorbs heat why are people coloured this way. Simply why are people as they are? Animals have camouflage because of predetors and their bodies adapt to how they live. So whats the answers pleaseWhy do African people have curly hair, wide noses and thick lips(educational, not racist type question)?
africa is hot and dry they have black skin because the melatonine in us all is turned on high to protect them from skin cancer..they hair had to evolve dry because hair follicles that are oily like white on people would have fried their brains..wider noses for larger sinus cavities to be able to run in the heat without passing out. in this country now african descendants still look like africans but in a long time their children will look like white children as we all evolve to suit our environment there are a lot more 'high yellow' skinned people here than ever before and guess what..its not all from mixing the races...in time everyone in this country will look the same because we all live in the same environment its just a matter of time..we are all the same inside and we all evolve slowly over time to meet the needs of our environment..white people who move to arrid nations like africa will someday have descendant who are black believe it or not, the only difference in the races is that we adapt over the centuries to our environment. Why do African people have curly hair, wide noses and thick lips(educational, not racist type question)?
Well It's actually called ';melanin, not melatonine'; and also, black americans arent that high yellow (or what every you said) due to changes over time. its because 40% of us have native american in our lineage, and others have white in theirs. In Africa, people are just as dark as the've been.
Report Abuse After reading other answers, I have to agree with some.
The dark skin is due to thousands of years in the sun, the body has adapted.
The hair has thickened to protect the scalp
The nose is wide, to help with the cooling process
The lips, like your other answers, I have no idea about... but I'm sure there's an explanation somewhere.
I think you've asked a good question...I've never thought about it before...I'll see what sort of answers I get from family members.......very interesting question.
Simple...nature
White people are white because there are from europe. Same reason polar bears are white.
I would think black people are dark because african weather his very hot, and with darker skin, its harder to get sunburn
I'm dark skin and I don't get sunburn easily but my white friend burns like a match in the sun lol
If you look at any animal in the world, you will see the same thing
....... Not all of them do.... What about the Ethiopians? They have straight noses, straight hair and well normal lips...
Not only them, In Trinidad (where my family originates from) our skin is very light (like my entire immediate family's) my hair is semi - curly and only mine and my mothers (R.I.P.) nose are slightly broader then say my brothers and dad's noses.... I cant even begin to explain that...
Also what about my aunt who is very light skinned and her husband is Dark skinned, 2 of their children came out darker skinned and the other one came out as light as their mother....
That's the one that baffles me.....
When you get the answer e-mail me lol
You'd have to consult the Creator of mankind, God.
He has all the answers!
Black pigment blocks gamma rays and UV reducing the risk of cancer, rolled up hair thats wooly is a better insulator and short hair cannot catch or be grabbed by a predator, thick lips are better for catching dew and releasing heat, wide noses provide a better flow of hot air out and cool air in.
Also.... They are thinner because that gives them a greater surface area to disperse heat.
A species most feared enemy is itself and since primates see in colour, camoflage is no help.
Also their skin is slightly more waterproofed.
I guess the melanine in the skin protected them from the harsh sun of Africa. But you are making a generalization because Africans come in all shades, different hair textures, and some have pointy noses and thin lips. For example take someone from Uganda and compare the look to either Ethiopia or Morroco.
The skin produces melanin as protection from the sun's rays. That's why a white person ';tans'; it's trying to protect itself. the sun's rays are much stronger in Africa than in northern climates.
Although your question may not be ';racist';, it implies that slender noses and straight hair are the ';norm'; and that kinky hair is some deviation. It isn't. The hair is tightly curled as another protection measure for the skull and scalp. As for the shape of noses and lips, I don't have a scientific or genetic explanation, but it certainly isn't any deviation from normal. People are just different, that's all.
it was believed africa is the origin of mankind and skin color changed through evolution.
so if black was the most primitive color, maybe it was really cold back then and they wore stuff over their heads and it made their hair all curly =)
It is better to approach this from the other direction and ask why do europeans not have these characteristics.
We all started off as africans. The other races lost these characteristics as they entered new environments.
Each of the characteristics had advantages for the species in Africa that are lost away from the african environment.
For example, the benefit of protecting the skin from UV with melanin (that is, having black skin) which was needed in the strong sun environment of africa, was harmful in northern latitudes, because here we needed the little sun we could get to generate vitamin D production in the skin. So people with paler skin were healthier and reproductively more successful.
When a characteristic makes you reproductively more successful, it increases its proportions in the population.
The skin change has nothing to do with camouflage, so has no similarity with the reason the Polar bears are white furred (not white skinned, as someone says above: Polar bears have black skin and white fur!)
Curly hair is a product of the shape of the follicle. Tightly curled hair, combined with evaporation might help keep the brain cool in an environment where the temperature is higher than body temperature. Again, away from the heat, the challenge is to keep warm, not cold. The hair is then best used to retain heat like a hat, and straight hair and reduced sweat glands are more beneficial.
The change of thick lips to thin seems to be an 'exaptation'. This is a change that is not, in itself, evolutionarily favoured, but is the by product of some other adaptive change, in this case the melanin again.

Higher up this thread there have been three types of comment I would caution against:
The first are the ';God did it, ask him'; type comments.
Whatever their beliefs, it they submitted a biology paper with that as an answer they would get no marks, and so would you. Their comments belong in the religion section of 'Yahoo! Answers', not the Maths and Science section.
The second are the ';Why black people changed from how whites are, to be as they are.'; type comments.
As I've tried to explain, all human races started off in Africa, with African characteristics. Asians, orientals, white, pacificans all changed from african to what they are. So that is how questions of human species development should be addressed.
Third are comments that say things like ';People put plates in their lips to stretch them and over time they became like that...';
There were originally two theories of evolution. One was Darwinian Evolution, the one we know today to be what happened: Mutation at the DNA level leads to changes at the organism level that, if beneficial spread through the population over time.
The other was called 'Lamarckian Evolution'. It said things like Giraffes kept stretching to reach the top leaves and over many generations their necks got longer and longer...';
It is a nice sounding theory, but it is nonsense.
It's all about the location and the genes it takes to adapt to that local. Vita man D is hard to come by the farther away you get from the homeland so the lighter skin. Thin noses and lots of nose hair help filter out the cold air etc. etc. etc...:)
All people are different, different colors, nationalities, attitudes, shapes, sizes, ans physical attributes..take them as what they are, they are all human,,,,every race has their own criticisms and flaws, even the yellow race having almost looking like mongoloids as they said, or brown asians said to be resembling with some ugly living thing, even the whites have too, and now the blacks...God made us all this way, we were created this way and we can't complain no more, in the end what is more important is in the eyes of God we are all born equal.............let us take each other as what we are.....after all, the places we are have somehow affected our skin color, our lifestyles and attitudes........
If their skins were white, the will burn in the sun, their nostrils are wider to cool the air that they breath. Remember all parts of africa are very hot.
Environmental adaptation. We are pasty because of our climate.
Scientist have done studies using the mitochondria DNA of every race and they have all been linked to one female. She was an African woman who walked the Earth about 200,000 years ago. Scientist call her Eve, not to be confused with the biblical Eve, she is the scientific Eve.
I would also like to add that the oldest human remains have consistently been found in Africa's East Rift Valley. Some believe that all of humanity originated in Africa and that is where the Garden of Eden was.
This means that all of humanity origianlly looked the way that Black People do and if they don't, it is because they are simply mutations. So, I think your question should be why doesn't every race look the way black people do.
Peace
Melanin darkens and thickens the skin. The thickening does give small extra protection against radiation, and the black skin is better at both absorbing and emitting radiation.
Given that anyone living in Africa will try to be in the shade during the heat of the day, black skin, which in those conditions loses heat faster, actually contributes to keep the body cool. Only those forced to be in the open during siesta time will suffer - a minority, as anyone accustomed to hot countries will know.
I have no idea about the adaptive nature of the curly hair or the facial shape.
Black people originate from Africa and lived outside most often, so their skin secreted tan colored pigment that got stronger over the years. That tan has now turned to deep black, which most American whites would die for...(I'm not racist!)
Ask God, not YA!
THE SUN OVER TIME BAKED THEIR SKIN BLACK
WIDE LIPS: TRIBES USED TO PUT CLAY PLATES IN THEIR LIPS TO WIDEN THEM.... OVER TIME, EVOLUTION MADE IT PERMANENTLY LIKE THAT
EVERYONE USED OT HAVE CURLY HAIR, BUT WHITE PPL PROCESSED IT SO MUCH THAT THERE'S BECAME STRAIGHT THROUGH EVOLUTION
WIDE NOSES I DONT KNOW.... LOOK IT UP ON A SCIENTIFIC WEBSITE TO DO WIHT EVOLUTION
africans are dark because we dont get sunburns, or a risk of skin cancer. plus, we get to come in all different shades.
we have thick lips wait not all of us do. god gave some of us thick lips and some of us normal lips, better to kiss with my dear.
we have curly hair because wait not all of us do. and i am black and ill bet u think i have short nappy hair. NONE OF MY BLACK FRIENDS WEAR WEAVE, AND OUR HAIR COMES TO OUR BACK. MY COUSIN AND MY FRIENDS HAIR GO DOWN TO THEIR BUTT AND ITS TOTALLY STRAIGHT SO WHAT WERE U SAYING? we are not white and pale. we dont have strands of hay for hair, and we dont have little baby skinny lips that you cant see. tell u the truth, im glad god made us like this! phew!
curly hair is from the radiation of the sun
wide noses is fighting
thick lips is because they talk too much ma
