Vasaline works best for me. You need something that will keep the air off them and let them heal. The vasaline also takes the pain out of them when you open your mouth, smile...After they heal, use chapstick of something like that ALL the time.

Don't lick or touch them. Use lip stick.
I have to watch for that in winter, and my husband has a similar problem with his hands. I found an oil at a local health food store that is great for taking care of stuff like that! Basicly, it's just assorted oils that might be used for cooking blended with a number of herbs. I just dab a little on my lips and make sure to stay hydrated, and I have little if any trouble with it.

Carmex is more effective than Vaseline because it is medicated. It may burn a bit at first because they are so chapped, but keep putting it on and soon they will be soft.
